6 ways to motivate yourself to workout

Are you finding it harder and harder to get out of bed and make your way to the gym? Can’t push yourself to get in that workout after work anymore? Don’t stress, not everyone can stick to a routine. This can especially be the case when you are just starting to work out as well. So here are some tips that may just push you over that motivational barrier!

1. Reward yourself

When you put in a solid week of consistent training - have a cheat meal - you deserve it. Even though you may not realise it, rewarding yourself helps you to stay motivated in the long run. An extrinsic reward is so powerful because your brain can latch on to it and make the link that the behaviour is worthwhile.

2. Wash you hair ONLY on days you work out

Ok, this might sound strange, but what you're doing is combining a habit with a feedback mechanism. Challenging yourself to stick to this routine means you won't go 2 days without exercise. Be firm with yourself. Very soon you'll be making the exercise a habit like washing your hair because they both go hand in hand.

3. Think positive and visualise before-hand

Get up in the morning and create a ritual of imagining the run or workout coming up in a positive, feel-good manner! Imagine the sun on your face and fresh air rather than how sleepy you are and you'll be training your brain to look forward to what's coming up.

4. Get your workout playlist ready

Load up Spotify or your favourite music app and start pulling together a quick playlist of tunes you're looking forward to listening to during your workout. You're making the preparation fun and rewarding yourself with your favourite music when you exercise.
